Introduction: If you've ever observed the moon, you've probably noticed that it doesn't always look the same. Sometimes one part of the moon is lit and at other times a different part is lit. Sometimes you can even see the moon during the day.

This webquest will help you understand why the moon appears differently at different times. All the answers can be found on the websites provided. You will need to read to find the answers.

There are five tasks to complete. Use the links llisted under each one to help you find the answers. If you lose your worksheet packet, you can print another one using the worksheet in your Google Classroom assignment. I will not give you an extra copy.

Task One - Naming and drawing the eight phases of the moon.
How do the Phases Get Their Names

The Phases of the Moon

Task Two - Understanding the words used in Science and other areas is very important. You need to define the words gibbous, waning, and waxing. Use the following site to help you.

Moon Glossary

Tasks Three and Four - Because the moon phases follow a predictable pattern, we can know exactly which phase the moon is in or has been in or will be in. It's like magic! Use this link to see the predictability of the moon's phases.

Task Five - Every new skill needs practice. Use the link below to help you practice identifying and drawing moon phases. NOTE: The webpage and the worksheet have the sun on opposite sides. How can you make sure you are drawing the correct phase based on this information?
