Sometimes I don't get the information posted right away... See my blog if you want to know why.  :-)

We have read through chapter 10.  The Free State Hotel has been destroyed once now.  James' house has been burned to the ground.  What's next?

HOMEWORK:  There is no additional homework.  The 3-paragraph essay on choice is due on Monday.  See the assignment from a few days ago for more information...there is also a countdown calendar.  Be sure to keep up with the questions on the worksheet...and, don't lose the worksheet.

Weekend Bonus:  The first three people in each class who use the Word of the Day (found on this page) in an original sentence that includes "Lansing Middle School" will receive extra credit on their Choice essay.  Email me the sentence.

Still reading Steal Away Home.  What a good book.  It definitely has some sad parts.  Today we read about how a slave had been "marked" by his owner.  I think it is a great book full of information given in an interesting way.

HOMEWORK:  1.  Finish the worksheet with questions from chapters 1-6.  It should be almost done if you've been keeping up.
2.  Read the article you received and write a one-paragraph summary of the article.  If you have lost the article, they are all in the Literature folder in your Edmodo Literature class.
3.  Don't forget you have a three-paragraph essay due on Monday about choices.

You should already have started answering questions on the newest worksheet for chapters 7-12.

We read chapters 3 and 4 today in class.  You need to make sure you keep up with the questions.

HOMEWORK (due Monday, September 30):  Three paragraph essay

In chapter 3 Dana tells us that her parents give her choices and lets her own them.  She is responsible for her choices and the consequences, good or bad, that result from her choices.  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  Defend your answer.  Include reasons for each side of the issue.

Para 1 - Your views on personal choice at your age.
Para 2 - Why making your own choices and taking responsibility for them is good.
Para 3 - Why making your own choices is a bad idea and others should make them for you.

Your paper needs to be double-spaced with a proper heading!!  You may use Google Docs and put it in your folder.

Your paper is due in:

It's library day!  There is no additional homework, but pay attention to the A/R goal countdown on this page.  Time is ticking away and the goal is worth a total of 10 percent of your grade.

I have put the first worksheet here, but you will find the rest in the folder on Edmodo.  Make sure you check Edmodo frequently!!  You can find the link on this site under the School Resources tab.

We've read the first two chapters of Steal Away Home.  We've been introduced to Dana and her mom as well as James  and  his mother and sister.  We now have information for the exposition of the story...where, when, who.  The worksheet given out today includes questions for chapters 1-6.  Keep up with the questions as we read and you won't have to try to remember or go back so often.  Use evidence from the text to support your answers....I really want page numbers!!!

On the back of the worksheet you need to keep a list of the characters to whom we are introduced.  Give some information about them...it will help you remember them.

The assignment due on Wednesday, September 25, is two pictures...one showing the setting (house) in 1991 where Dana lives and one showing the house in 1856 where James lives.  Make sure you use color appropriately.
